Winning entry: The Physics Behind a Better Future

Congratulations to our 2026 winner, Alex from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Wakefield. In his entry, The Physics Behind a Better Future, Alex explored how physics can help make homes more future-ready through technologies such as solar power, battery storage and insulation. Take a look at his entry and cover letter:

I designed a short comic strip which has a short story line teaching children about how homes can be future ready using numerous methods, all powered by physics. I then created a poster which explains how those methods work in physics terminology (GCSE level) my poster talks about the physics behind solar power, battery storage and insulation including multiple graphs, diagrams and equations. My aim of the project is to teach people about how physics powers the future, and if you are interested, the detailed physics behind it in hopes of inspiring people to be future ready and create a better planet for everyone.
