Congratulations to Niel from Trumpington Community College, who received a Highly Commended Award in the Age 12 category. In his entry, Solar Power Isn’t the Whole Answer, Niel explored how physics can help address the energy challenge, examining both the benefits and limitations of solar power. His project explained key concepts such as energy, efficiency and storage, while highlighting the importance of reducing energy consumption as well as generating clean electricity. Take a look at his entry and cover letter:
This video looks at how physics can help with the energy problem, especially in homes using solar power. Solar panels are a great way to make clean energy, but they’re not the full solution. The project explains simple physics ideas like energy, efficiency, and storage, and shows both the good and bad sides of solar power. It also makes the point that using less energy and not wasting electricity is just as important as making more of it. Overall, it connects physics to real life and shows how we can think smarter about energy and the future. The video project was created with inspiration from Learning with Sherlock.
