Shortlisted: The Physics of Defying Gravity

Read their cover letter:

“In my project The Physics of Defying Gravity, I dressed up as a witch (yes that witch from Wicked) to explain how I’m really flying… using science! I used magnets to show how objects can appear to float, and built my own anti-gravity box to prove it. Throughout the video, I link science and theatre to show how something magical on stage can actually be explained by physics. I had loads of fun combining drama and magnetism (and making way too many Wicked references), and I wanted to show that science isn’t just for labs it’s part of everything, even musicals! I hope it makes people laugh and learn something new about how magnets work. Who says witches can’t be scientists? With a bit of creativity (and some magnetic fields), you really can defy gravity… kind of!”
